Lawyers in Cyprus – Review – Re-opening of Famagusta Article- completed on 27th May 2010. http://www.lawcyprus.org/

We recently reviewed an article in the daily newspaper that totally got our attention. The article spoke of re-opening the Famagusta Ghost Town and making this a tax-free zone where Turkish and Greek Cypriots will work and live together in peace and harmony.

We found this very so very interesting and we actually think this is an excellent idea. This would definitely be a stepping stone in to the peaceful reunification of Greek and Turkish Cypriots living as one.

The Famagusta Ghost Town was once a thriving and beautiful place to be. It was classed as the most popular holiday destination in Cyprus until the Turkish military invaded and took control of the area in 1974. The Turkish military are still there today patrolling the borders of the Ghost Town while the town itself sits derelict and rotting away.

It was mentioned that the area should be governed by an independent unbiased source from outside the two communities and should be a joint venture between both Turkish Cypriots and Greek Cypriots. A tax free policy should be brought in and stay in force permanently.

Can you imagine what it would feel like to see this once flourishing coastal town in full operation again, with Turkish and Greek nationals living side by side? Just thinking about this makes our hearts jiggle a beat.

Would it not be the biggest and most historical moment in Cyprus history for Greek and Turkish Cypriots, if this was agreed and all citizens on both sides of the island put their hands up in a vote and the Famagusta Ghost Town reopened? That day would be like standing in the middle of a magical wonder world. Wow what a thought.

It was a pleasure reviewing and writing this article and we would like to hear from our readers how you feel about this idea. This is an issue very close to our hearts along with hundreds of thousands of other individuals so please tell us your views we would love to hear from you.

We at A&G Kouzali Lawyers in Famagusta Cyprus recently reviewed the issue of water shortage in Cyprus. For all local residents of Cyprus it is a joyous day when the rain falls. The holiday makers find this very strange, but we locals know the consequences when the dry weather continues. 2007-2008 drought saw some residential households receiving water only 3 days a week. Water had to be transported from Greece but this was still insuffient to fulfil the requirements of the residents of Cyprus. It is a nice thought to have 365 days of sunshine but realistically it is not practical living.

We at A & G Kouzali Lawyers based in Protaras Cyprus, praise the Developers who are now planning their properties with this issue in mind. Some developers are recycling and treating waste water to be used for toilets and exterior purposes. Other developers are using methods such as, instant hot water taps and recycling facilities plus many resources. This course of action is a genuinely good move and should be considered when buying property in Cyprus.

Steps are also being taken by developers to find solutions for the hard water Cyprus suffers from. The water tends to corrode all metals from plumbing and heating elements down to normal kitchen utensils. One developer has installed a solar powered device on a trial basis to see if it will do the job and he believes if this device works it will save on money and energy and will use at least a quarter less water than used presently.

The developers are confident that all efforts being made to find a solution to the water problem are not in any way compromising the environment. We advise all Cyprus residents to do their duty in conserving water.

We at A&G Kouzali Law Office, being one of the most renowned Lawyers in Famagusta Cyprus are very proud not only for our business achievement but for experiencing and being born to the island of Cyprus. There are so many attributes in making Cyprus one of the most beautiful islands in Europe. And we would like to take this opportunity to enlighten you on a weekly basis, with a brief review of the amazing qualities and aspects of life in Cyprus.

We would like to start with the Flora and Fauna of Cyprus. This is an aspect that is not necessarily recognized when taking holidays here but for those specific nature lovers it is an ecological paradise. Cyprus boosts in the region of 1800 different types of flowering plants and is home to approximately 400 individual living species of mammals, birds, and reptiles.

Cyprus comprises two salt lakes, which makes it a rest point for millions of migrating birds on their journey to Africa. Amazingly, new to Cyprus are the Green Turtles, accompanying the existing Loggerhead Turtles. They are a protected species who continue to breed on our coastal beaches. The coastal waters are also home to almost 200 individual species of animal sea life.

Exclusive to our island is the Moufflon, this is a rare type of wild sheep and is the largest animal still living on the Island. The vast range of nature inhabited on the island of Cyprus is just one element adding to the beauty and natural history of Cyprus life. We as Cypriot Residents should do all we can to protect and preserve our natural wildlife.
